Cheesy Spuds

OK, this one's probably too simple to include as a recipe, but just in case you haven't thought of it.  This batch should serve 4 people

At Home:

  Ingredients Metric  Standard
  Instant Mashed Potato Flakes 500 ml 2 cups
  Powdered Skim Milk 80 ml 1/3 cup
  Pinch Garlic Powder    
  Salt 5 ml 1 tsp
  Margarine 20 ml 1.5 Tbsp
  Grated Cheddar Cheese 250 ml I cup

Instructions:

  • Combine all dry ingredients in a ziploc bag.
  • Place margarine in a rigid sealed container
  • Grate cheese and double-bag in ziplocs, OR
  • For longer trips, you can grate the cheese and dry it before placing in a ziploc bag.  Drying can be accomplished by simply spreading the grated cheese out in the air and allowing it to dry.

In Camp:

  • Measure 2.5 cups of water into a pot
  • Add the margarine, and bring to a boil.
  • Remove the pot from the heat, and stir in the dry mixture and the cheese.
  • Place a lid on the pot and set aside for 3-5 minutes.
