Your Body: Your Furnace

When we are indoors in the winter time, we rely on external sources of heat, such as a furnace, to maintain our level of comfort. In the indoor environment, if we are cold, we turn up the heat.
When we begin to camp outdoors in colder temperatures, we need to re-think this model. In the outdoors, your primary source of heat is your own body. Winter camping can be quite pleasurable if you learn to:
  1. Fuel your body so that it produces enough heat - Fuelling the Furnace
  2. Manage the heat produced by your body - Regulating the Furnace
  3. Reduce your body’s heat loss to a minimum - Insulating the House
  4. Regulate your body’s heat loss - Venting the House
